FAQ

What is HowFamous.com?
HowFamous.com is an online talent contest where people compete against one another to showcase their true talent and get famous! Our contestants first create a user profile on our site, upload photos and video showing off their talent and then select a contest they wish to compete in.  Contestants advance using a point system and win by a vote from the community. Winners are spotlighted on the HowFamous website and become eligible for inclusion in our advertising campaign and hold ‘winner status’ for 6 weeks.

Where did the idea come from?
David Ho, inventor and founder of HowFamous came up with the idea to use the uncanny networking power of the Internet to connect people in order to help make someone famous. From this simple idea, David spent two sleepless weeks coding and setting up the first site and HowFamous was born. Since that first day, the bold goal of HowFamous REALLY is to try and make someone famous. So, if you've ever thought it could happen to you, here's where you can find out. Everyone starts off with an equal chance here. It doesn't matter how much money you have, where you live, who you know or who you're related to. It doesn't even matter if you're good looking or not. It's all about you, your talent, your personality and your ability to win fans and friends.

Do I have to pay to play?
Absolutely not! Signing up is free and you can begin playing right away! However, to get the most fun out of the site, we encourage you to purchase a Premium Account upgrade.

Is this an Internet Dating site?
No, HowFamous is about getting exposure for you. It's not really made for contestants to contact each other for a date. And we will NOT reveal any player's identity or contact information to anyone. That being said, some people still use the site to hook up with others and that's OK. You can send a private message ("fan mail") to any contestant and the recipient may or may not respond. It's up to them, but in either case, their identity is always private.

Why aren't my fame points going up?
They are! Anti-cheating measures are in place to prevent you from reloading your (or another person's) profile page over and over just to rack up points for yourself. ("Self-fame" isn't the goal here. ;) There are other anti-cheating measures also in place which aren't as obvious. Be assured, however, that if you're playing fairly, your points will go up according to Rules.

Can I ever lose points?
Yes. If someone removes you from their Friends List you lose those points earned. Changing contests before it ends will result in the loss of all your Fame points.

How do I edit my profile?
Click on the My Page tab at the top of the website to get to your Profile. Here you will see edit buttons and Edit Profile under the Preferences section. You can change your photos, text, video, contest, etc.

How do I add Friends?
Go to the person’s profile and click on the ADD AS FRIEND button. Your request will be sent to that person however he or she must accept before being added on your list. Having lots of good friends will help you in your contest!

I uploaded a new picture to my profile. Why didn't it change?
You probably have caching turned on. Clear your web browser's cache and reload your profile. In IE, click on Tools -> Internet Options. Under "Temporary Internet Files", click on the "Settings" button. Under "Check for newer versions of stored pages" select "Every visit to the page". Click "OK" twice and reload your profile. You should see your new picture.

What is Fan mail?
Fan mail is just what it sounds like. It's a private message that you send to the contestant. Say anything you want. No one else can read it but the person you sent it to. Fan mail messages can be read and sent from your Profile page.

Are these people for real?
Yep. They're for real. You should join them!

Will you sell my email address to spammers?
No! We do not "sell" or "rent" your email address to anyone! We will send you occasional news about what's happening with the HowFamous community, but the primary purpose of storing your email is in case you forget your password and to verify your identity when you send your profile to your friends or people you know. To opt-out of ALL email communications, simply go to your profile and set "Allow notifications to be sent to your email" to "N" and you will never receive email from us ever. That's a promise!

Are you an agency or associated with one?
No and no. Game to Fame, Inc. owner and operator of the HowFamous web site, is an Internet technology development company (we're engineers). We provide a fun, online contest where players can get exposure simply from the collective activity of everyone playing the game. The more people that play HowFamous, the more exposure everyone gets. Eventually, someone WILL become famous just from competing in the contests and it could be anyone (even you!). We can't help you once you become famous. All we can do is to help you get there by giving you a chance to compete. After you win, it's totally up to you what you want to do with your fame.

Who are you?
Read the About page.

Why was my profile disabled?
You probably violated one of the Rules.

Who owns the profile I create?
You own your photo and the text you write and you only give Game to Fame, Inc./HowFamous permission to display those things on this web site. Any other rights to your own content, you reserve for yourself. Game to Fame, Inc./HowFamous owns everything else..
